This unit concentrates on the basic mechanisms of disease processes including the nature of cellular injury, inflammation, infection, repair, regeneration, neoplasia and abnormal vascular reactions. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of histology (and cytology) including sample preparation, fixation, embedding, microtomy and cryotomy, histochemical and cytochemical staining techniques and microscopy.
